Colin Moock + ActionScript 3.0 = Good times
I was pretty excited to hear about Colin Moockâs ActionScript 3.0: From the Ground Up Tour today because it coincided nicely with our posting in the Adobe Developer Center of two excerpts of his O’Reilly book, Essential ActionScript 3.0:
We chose two chapters to post in their entirety: Chapter 20, “Display API and the display list”, and Chapter 21, “Events and display hierarchies.” When I e-mailed Colin to let him know we’d gotten those chapters from O’Reilly to provide as free PDF downloads on our site, he replied: “Wow, those are two fantastic chapters to be offering for free.” He should know, so check them out!
As to his “From the Ground Up Tour,” this free one-day event is based on his book, and it covers that everything you need to get started programming in ActionScript 3.0. Topics include object-oriented programming, classes, objects, variables, methods, packages, conditionals, loops, operators, functions, error handling, event handling, display programming, compiling, and running programs. I’m told this seminar is targeted at Flash users with beginner to intermediate programming skills. Said the organizer: “Those completely new to ActionScript are welcome to attend, but may feel overwhelmed by the quantity of information in the course.”
To get more information on dates and locations, and registration, you can visit adobeas3tour.com. Looks like confirmed dates and locations so far include Oct. 27 in San Francisco, Nov. 5 in Los Angeles, and Nov. 12 in New York City.
By the way, if you’re interested in knowing more about Colin, check out this interview we did with him for the Adobe Developer Center last year as part of the tenth anniversary of Flash celebration.
